When I heard the impression scientists made of the Parasaurolophus yesterday, I had this image in mind immediatly.
Sounds is from, well that recording, and freesound.org. I mainly combined it.
(The image may take a while to load, sorry)
parasaurolophus call
scientists at the New Mexico Museum of Natural History have reconstructed the skull and crest of Parasaurolophus and used digital acoustics to recreate the calls it would have made using the huge resonating chamber on top of its head.
check out a sound not heard on earth for 75 million years.
(remember, though, that the sound would have been modulated by soft tissues, which haven’t been preserved- so, unfortunately, this is just an approximation, albeit a pretty awesome one)
Very cool. I’ve wondered how Mato’s skull would affect his vocalisation.

Top one done by HowItWas! I really love their painterly style and use of colors. There is something very melancholy about the picture that I think really fits with Mat.
The traditional one is by Artsja! I had really hoped to color it but I haven’t really gotten the chance to, and I’d have to make sure not to ruin the personality of the drawing! Mato looks very displeased, haha! Reminds me of the times he’s trying to take a skull from someone and they wake up.
The next one is done by Dajhi. I actually think that is the first time someone other than me drew him! He looks so adorably suprised, maybe confused even.
Next up is a commission done by Tea. I couldn’t have imagined myself how he would look lying down, such awkward anatomy. But with their drawing it looks really natural, and he doesn’t look odd in any way. I think that’s reaally difficult to achieve with six limbs. XD
I have once considered going all parasaurolophus on him and removing his hooves, but I think as a TEF character it only makes sense for him to have them. And well. He’s wonky and awkward. It works.
Apeldille drew him like such a creeper. Absolutely love this one. Especially those hands, and that creepy face.
A commission by Terabetha! I really like the more innocent side of him she displayed, expression-wise. The pose lays a perfect accent on his awkward anatomy!

Made for a small story with Mato.
A bird killed accidentally in play. Deer who get spelled with an animal-spell often get ‘stomped on’ for fun. This time, things get bad.
Mato is the one to find the dead, stomped bird. Usually dedicated to burying the dead (skulls), this time Mato goes against his own goal and takes the bird with him to care for it.
Perhaps a slip to the past?
